This policy sets out what MTIK, and the networks run through it, may and may not be used for. It applies to you, to anyone you give access to, and — through the rules you publish on your own captive portal — to the people who connect to your hotspots. It forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. Operate lawfully
Before you sell access to a network, make sure you are allowed to. Many countries require a licence, a registration or the permission of the connection's owner to run a public hotspot or to resell internet access, and some require you to keep session records or to identify users. Meeting those requirements is your responsibility, not ours, and we cannot advise you on them.
You must also have the right to manage every router you connect to the platform.
2. What must not happen on your network
You must not use the platform, and must take reasonable steps to stop your end users using your hotspot, to:
- break the law of any country involved, or help someone else to;
- send spam or unsolicited bulk messages of any kind;
- distribute malware, ransomware or anything designed to damage a system;
- attack, scan, overload or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any other network or service;
- infringe someone else's copyright, trade mark or other rights;
- share material that is unlawful where you operate — including anything that exploits or endangers a child;
- harass, threaten or impersonate anyone;
- hide the origin of traffic in order to do any of the above.
You are not expected to police every packet. You are expected to act once you know about a problem, and to give your end users terms of your own that forbid these things.
3. What must not happen to the platform
You must not:
- share a login, or let anyone use an account we did not issue to them;
- probe, scan or test the security of the platform without our written permission — tell us what you found instead, and we will thank you for it;
- attempt to reach data belonging to another subscriber, or any part of the system your account was not given;
- copy, decompile or reverse engineer the platform, or try to rebuild it from what you can see;
- automate the dashboard in a way that loads the service unreasonably, or scrape it in bulk;
- resell, sublicense or hand your dashboard access to another business without our agreement;
- remove or obscure any security control, or interfere with the tunnel a router uses to reach us.
4. Looking after the people on your hotspot
The platform can bind a voucher to the device that first used it and can let a chosen device past the portal. Those exist so that a code you sold is used by the customer you sold it to. They must not be used to follow a person, to build a profile of anyone, or to identify a device beyond the site it connected to.
You must also:
- tell the people who connect what you record about them, in your own notice on your own portal;
- keep what you learn about them to yourself — never sell it or pass it on for marketing;
- never intercept, inspect or alter what an end user sends or receives.
5. Fair use
Plans are sized for ordinary operation. If the way an account uses the service degrades it for other subscribers — an unusual number of routers, a script hammering the dashboard, a process generating vouchers in a loop — we will contact you and agree a sensible limit before taking any other step.
6. Reporting a problem
If you see abuse coming from a network on this platform, or you believe you have found a security weakness in it, tell us using the contact details below. Please give us enough detail to reproduce it, and enough time to fix it before it is made public.
7. If this policy is breached
What we do depends on what happened. Where we can, we will contact you first and give you a chance to put it right. Where the risk is serious or ongoing — an active attack, unlawful material, a compromised account — we may suspend the account or a site immediately, and tell you afterwards.
Repeated or deliberate breaches end the subscription under clause 11 of the terms, without a refund. Where the law requires it, we will cooperate with a lawful request from an authority.
